Adaptainer Modifies Shipping Containers for Iconic New Pop-Up Mall
The first BoxPark pop-up mall came to life in London’s Shoreditch in 2011 and It quickly became an irresistible platform for independent retail brands.
Fast forward a few years and success of the development in Shoreditch set the wheels in motion for an even bigger and more ambitious project.
Adaptainer were asked by BoxPark and its owner Roger Wade to participate in the supply and modification of shipping containers for the joint collaboration project located next to East Croydon rail station.
Modifications made at Adaptainer workshops included creating apertures and structural strengthening of containers.
With a total of 96 Shipping containers this is one of the largest containerized food and beverage pop-up malls in the world.
The development also includes 20,000 sq ft of event space which BoxPark will use to host around 200 live events each year.
BoxPark has a 5 year land lease in Croydon although this might be extended.
“The portability of shipping containers makes them ideal for projects that require a fast installation time and the flexibility to be able to relocate at any time” said Jon Clark, co-founder of Adaptainer.
