Shipping container home

Staying in a shipping container hotel is a great way to experience what it might be like to have your own container home – without the expense of building it.

Do you have a dream of building a shipping container home but you’re still sitting on the fence a little?

Staying in a hotel made from shipping containers is a great way to experience what it might be like to live in a container home, without having to go and spend a whole bunch of time and money building it.

Perhaps after spending the night in one of these unique hotels you might decide that it’s really not for you, on the other hand, you might become even more convinced that a shipping container home is exactly what you want.

Visiting a container hotel is a low cost, easy way to test your dream out, get some inspiration and have some travelling fun along the way.

After researching shipping container hotels online for a few hours there are 3 i’d like to share with you:

Hotel Container, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia

Stay in the centre of Kuala Lumpur affordably.

Container Hotel only opened last year and judging by the reviews on TripAdvisor it’s already a hit.

This hotel has a unique style and offers 3 types of rooms, Outgoing, Adventure and Conservative. Rates start from just £10 – £26 per night depending on the room.

‘Conservative’ is the premium room choice offered and features a double bed together with en-suite toilet. The hotel’s website describes this room as having a warm and natural design, sounds good to me.

Sleep Box, Chiang Mai – Thailand

14 shipping containers have created 21 well designed rooms at this budget friendly hotel in northern Thailand.

The rooms are inviting and include air-conditioning, flat screen TV, refrigerator and en-suite bathroom. As well as this some of the rooms come with a sofa and balcony too.

On the hotel’s website they say that each of the rooms have been individually designed and insulated with PU foam to help keep the temperature inside just right for you.

Rates are from just £13 – £26 per night.

Xiang Xiang Xiang Pray House, Nan Dazhan Cun – China

Luxury accommodation and shipping containers combined? Watching the video it certainly looks like that is what they have achieved.

Built on a hill on the outskirts of Changzhi City the hotel, which opened in 2012, is made up of 35 shipping containers and offers 21 guestrooms.

The designers have installed windows on both the side and roof of each container room so that you can enjoy the natural scenery outside from the comfort of your room.

Perhaps the experience of staying in a shipping container hotel will be the catalyst you need to build your dream container home. Either way though, it’s a great excuse to travel!
